Ghanaian midfielder Michael Baidoo was instrumental in Elfsborg’s dominant 3-0 victory over Brommapojkarna in the Swedish top flight.
The 24-year-old put in a well-rounded performance, contributing a goal and an assist for his team.
Baidoo’s influence was felt early on as he set up Simon Hedlund for the opening goal in the 30th minute. Elfsborg continued to control the game, and Baidoo wasn’t done yet. He turned scorer himself in the 82nd minute, converting an assist from Hedlund to extend their lead.
Michael Baidoo was eventually subbed off in the 85th minute for Eggert Aron Gudmundsson, who added a third goal two minutes later to secure all three points for Elfsborg.
Ghanaian defender Terry Yegbe also featured for Elfsborg throughout the match. Meanwhile, Evans Botchway entered the fray for Brommapojkarna as a substitute, replacing Frederik Christensen in the 78th minute. However, Botchway’s contribution wasn’t enough to prevent his team’s defeat.
This victory propels Elfsborg to 7th place in the league table with 19 points after 14 matches. However, they have little time to celebrate as they turn their focus to European competition. Elfsborg will face Cyprus’s Pafos FC in the first round of the UEFA Europa League qualifiers on July 11th. The first leg will be played on home soil in Sweden, followed by the return leg a week later in Cyprus.
Baidoo’s performance against Brommapojkarna has earned him a match rating of 8.5, the highest of the game. The former FC Midtjylland midfielder has been in excellent form this season, contributing a total of 5 goals and 3 assists in 17 appearances across all competitions for Elfsborg in 2024. Michael Baidoo will be hoping to continue his impressive form and guide his team to success in both domestic and European competitions.
