Borussia Mönchengladbach Sports Director, Roland Virkus has expressed his delight at securing Ghanaian youngster Charles Herrmann on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund.
The 18-year-old winger, son of former Ghana star Charles Kwabla Akonnor. Joins the club with a reputation for exciting play, having notched 5 goals and 2 assists for Dortmund’s youth teams last season.
While acknowledging Herrmann’s talent, Virkus emphasized the importance of adaptation. “We are delighted that Charles Herrmann has decided to move to us,” he began. “He is a young, talented player who has the potential for higher tasks. But first he has to settle in here. We will give him the opportunities and time to develop.”

This signing marks a renewed pursuit of Herrmann by Mönchengladbach. Virkus revealed, “We wanted to convince Charles to come to us four years ago. We are delighted that he has now decided to join Borussia Mönchengladbach – even though there were several national and international interested parties.”
Despite his Ghanaian heritage, Herrmann has already represented Germany at the U16 and U17 levels. Achieving international success with victories in both the FIFA U-17 World Cup and European U17 Championship in 2023. He’ll initially integrate with Mönchengladbach’s youth team before potentially making the jump to the first team as he develops.
