Mortal remains of Christian Atsu arrives in Ghana

The mortal remains of Christian Atsu arrived in Ghana on Sunday evening at the Kotoka international Airport. High profile dignitaries from government, the military, the Ghana Football Association, the press and family members gathered to receive the mortal remains of the late footballer.

Ghanaians were of high hopes Atsu was going to survive the earthquake in Turkey but that wasn’t to be the case. On 18th February 2023 the player was found and confirmed dead. Bilateral Arrangement was made between Turkey and Ghana to transport the remains of the late footballer to the country.

Vice president His excellency Alhaji Dr. Mamuud Bawumia expressed his sincere condolences to the Twasam family, football fraternity and loved ones of the late footballer.

“It is a very sad day that we are here to receive the mortal remains of our brother, our son, our husband, our uncle, the tragedy that occurred in Turkey about a week ago is one that was devastating and we anxiously prayed our brother Christian Atsu will be found alive. We hoped against hope every day that passed, we prayed and prayed but at last when he was found he was no more. I will like to take this opportunity on behalf of the president and government to extend our sincere condolences to the Twasam family,  to Atsu’s twin Sister and brother, to the entire family for this deep loss”

The vice president also extended his deepest condolences to the football fraternity and indicated the late footballer will be missed.

Reigning Sports Journalists of the year Miss Juliet Bawuah described Atsu’s loss as a huge blow. She was hoping to hear the player has been rescued with some minor injuries and that he will be okay and never expected the tragic news of his passing.

The remains of Christian Atsu made its way from the Kotoka international Airport to the 37 military hospital. The state is expected to be heavily involved in the burial of the late footballer.
