Former Sekondi Eleven Wise Striker, William Opoku Mensah has revealed that before a player can wear the famous red and white stripes to play for the Western Show Boys, he must have a big heart before.
Eleven Wise is been regarded by many as the third most followed club in the country after Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.
Recounting his days at Eleven Wise in an interview with Takoradi based, KYZZ FM, Opoku Mensah indicated that the influence of the then head coach, Johnson Smith lured him to the club.
“I chose to play for Eleven Wise because of the head coach then, Johnson Smith.
“He convinced me to come and train with them after watching me play in a community game at Methodist Park. I played my first game against Hasaacas in a charity match and that started it all”.
Despite playing just a season, the forward felt the greatness of the Western Show Boys.
“Any player who has played for Eleven Wise can play for any team in Ghana.
“Eleven Wise has rich tradition and a huge fanbase, I can say it is one of the best teams I have played and I can say if you play for Eleven Wise as a player, it will mean you have a big heart.
“I remember when we use to play at Gyandu Park, anytime we walk out of the tunnel to the pitch, the crowd alone, will send a message to every player” he said in an interview with Solomon Kwesi Amankwaah on KYZZ FM.
William Opoku Mensah played for the Eleven Wise in the 2015-2016 season before joining Karela United the following season.
