Newcastle in talks with Man Utd over Dean Henderson loan

Newcastle are in talks with Manchester United over a possible loan deal for Dean Henderson, 90min understands.

The 24-year-old has been unable to dislodge David de Gea as United’s number-one goalkeeper, and is anxious to leave Old Trafford so he can play regular first team football.

United have been reluctant to part ways with Henderson, even though they also have the experienced Tom Heaton on their books, but it’s 90min‘s understanding that the England international could now be given the opportunity to go elsewhere.

Newcastle had been interested in signing Arsenal stopper Bernd Leno on loan, but the Magpies have now turned their attention to Henderson.

Toon boss Eddie Howe is desperate to strengthen his squad with as many signings as he can before Monday’s transfer deadline, with 90min understanding that as many as four new players could be welcomed to St James’ Park.

A new striker, centre-back and left-back headline Newcastle’s extensive wish list, but the opportunity to take Henderson away from Old Trafford may be too difficult to turn down given Martin Dubravka’s struggles with injury and Karl Darlow’s relatively low save percentage.

Bruno Guimaraes is on the verge of joining Newcastle in a deal that will eventually be worth north of €50m, while the club are continuing to pursue deals for the likes of Duvan Zapata, Hugo Ekitike and Dan Burn.

Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood are the two players to have joined Newcastle so far in January, arriving from Atletico Madrid and Burnley respectively.
