Axel Witsel has retired from international football at the age of 34.
The Belgian announced his retirement from international football via twitter:
‘After careful consideration, it is with great emotion that I made the decision to retire from international football. It was a great pride to have been able to represent my country during these last 15 years.
Now it is important for me to devote more time to my family and focus on my club. I thank all the people who allowed me to flourish under the jersey of the red devils.
Thank you to all my Coaches, my teammates, not to mention the medical staff.
Thank you to you supporters for accompanying me during my 130 Caps.
Good luck to the new generation who I’m sure will still make us live incredible moments.’
