The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have announced that the Cairo Derbybetween Al Ahly and Zamalek has been postponed without revealing any reasons.
The Whites were supposed to host Al Ahly in the third round of the Egyptian Premier League on Monday, December 28.
The game was to come one month after the historic CAF Champions League final, which Al Ahly won 2-1, thanks to Mohamed Magdy Afsha’s later winner.
Just days before the clash, Zamalek announced that two of their key players in Tarek Hamed and Mahmoud Alaa had contracted COVID-19.
On the other hand, Mohamed Magdy Afsha, Amr El-Sulya, Rami Rabiaa, and head coach Pitso Mosimane had also tested positive for COVID-19.
And less than a week of the encounter, the EFA had replaced the Cairo Derby with two games without revealing the reason to do so.
Instead of the game, Al Ahly will host Ittihad of Alexandria at the Al Ahly stadium, while Zamalek will face Smouha at Borg El-Arab on the same day.
The EFA added that the new date of the Cairo Derby will be announced later.
