Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak have announced the recruitment of Ivorian trainer Aboubakar Ouattara as their new head coach ahead of the second round of the Ghana Premier League.
The club announced the news on February 9th, stating that Ouattara has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract. He is expected to begin training with the players next week after their friendly against Techiman Eleven Wonders.
Ouattara takes over from Dutch coach Martin Koopman, was dismissed in the middle of the first round due to poor results in the Ghana Premier League. Assistant coach Rahim Bashiru took over as caretaker until the season’s first half ended.
Ouattara brings a wealth of experience to the table, having managed some of Africa’s most prestigious clubs like AS Vita Club, TP Mazembe, and Wydad Athletic Club. He is also no stranger to Ghanaian football, having previously led Asante Kotoko and King Faisal.
Currently sitting 11th with 21 points, Hearts of Oak begin their second-round campaign on February 23 with a home match against Real Tamale United. Ouattara’s immediate challenge is to improve the team’s performance and lead them to success in the remaining matches.
