The Premier League is home to a string of great midfielders and the best thing is, there’s a player to suit everyone’s needs.
Destructive number fours, playmaking number sixes, dynamic number eights and silky number tens. You name it, the Premier League’s got it.
But who is the cream of the crop? Here is 90min’s top 10 PL midfielders on current form…
It’s been a coming of age season for Gallagher / Sebastian Frej/MB Media/GettyImages
Conor Gallagher showed promise at West Brom last season, but few expected him to push on quite this much at Crystal Palace.
Gallagher is a boundless bundle of energy in midfield, who racks up goals and assists regularly. Expect to see him bundling around for Chelsea next term.

It is rare that attacking midfielders are as consistent as Mason Mount.
Spotless out of possession, he also uses the ball efficiently, as his seven goals and eight assists this season can attest to.
Chelsea have spent a lot of money on their squad in recent times but few players are as important as this homegrown talent.

Phil Foden can do things that very few players in the Premier League can replicate.
An irresistible blend of pace, technique and movement make him nigh-on impossible to defend against. It is scary to think what he will go on to achieve before he calls time on his career.
Fernandes would have topped this list at times last season / Naomi Baker/GettyImages
Bruno Fernandes being as low as seven on this list would have been unthinkable during the early part of his Man Utd career.
However, although he has been picking up his game in January, he has failed to replicate the heights of his early Red Devils days this season.
On his day, he remains unplayable.
Gundogan is great going in both directions / Chloe Knott – Danehouse/GettyImages
Once lost in the shuffle of world-class midfielders at the Etihad Stadium, Ilkay Gundogan stepped out on his own in 2021.
Scoring for fun and plugging gaps in the City midfield before they even formed, he can no longer be ignored when compiling a list of the Premier League’s best.
Kante is tireless / Shaun Botterill/GettyImages
N’Golo Kante’s powers were being doubted a while ago but he has made these critics look very stupid over the past 12 months.
Underrated on the ball, his defensive powers are legendary and over the past few seasons he has even started to add some goals to his game. He’s also a thoroughly nice bloke by all accounts.
Rice is a target for several Champions League sides / Naomi Baker/GettyImages
One day, probably in the future, West Ham are going to sell Declan Rice for a lot of money.
Sure, his price tag will be inflated by the ‘English player’ tax, but he will also attract monster bids because he is one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League.
Rodri has gone from strength to strength this season / Alex Livesey/GettyImages
Rodri has had his doubters over the years, but this season accepting his brilliance has become mainstream.
Replacing the timeless Fernandinho was never going to be an easy task but the Spaniard has continually risen to the challenge and is now one of the few ‘undroppables’ in Pep Guardiola’s side.
Bernardo is so hard to dispossess / James Gill – Danehouse/GettyImages
It is impossible not to marvel at Bernardo Silva whenever he takes to the pitch.
His close control, agility, and turn of pace mean he can carry the ball for pretty much as long as he wants. Once he gets to the end of his meandering runs he normally provides a key pass, assist or goal too.
De Bruyne is one of the best players around / Mike Hewitt/GettyImages
Here he is. The best midfielder in the Premier League.
Kevin De Bruyne seems to finally be on his way back to his best following a few injury frustrations – and we’re loving it.
