With the 2022 World Cup in sight, former Black Stars coach, Kwasi Appiah has admonished African countries to mentally tough against their opponents in order to better their best record finish at the mundial.
Five African sides will head to Qatar looking to etch their names into the tournament’s illustrious history. Senegal,Tunisia, Morrocco and Cameroon would all, surely, be content with a run to the quarter-finals. However, the quintet will each be acutely aware that any side who could go one stage further would truly break a glass ceiling for the continent’s sport.
Senegal has been housed in Group A with host country Qatar, Ecuador and the Netherlands. Tunisia will have France; holders of the trophy, IC play-off 1 and Denmark to contend with in Group D. Morocco on the other hand has been pitted against Belgium, Canada and 2018 finalist, Croatia. While Cameroon will face record holders of the tournament, Brazil, Serbia and Switzerland. Portugal, Uruguay, Korea Republic will lock horns with Ghana in Group H.
However to better their finish in Qatar, Kwesi Appiah thinks that will demand extra work and the need for determination to prove their mettle.
“We should all change our mindsets that we can do it. It shouldn’t always be about Brazil, France, Argentina among others. Once we change our mindsets on the continent, then the players will go on the pitch knowing that they can do it once they’ve had adequate preparations”, he urged.
