Ghanaian forward Ransford Yeboah Königsdörffer was the star of the show as Hamburger SV kicked off their 2024/25 Bundesliga 2 campaign with a 2-1 victory over FC Cologne.
The 22-year-old winger netted a brace to propel his side to the crucial three points.
Königsdörffer opened the scoring in the sixth minute, setting the tone for the afternoon. His second goal arrived in the 37th minute, doubling Hamburg’s advantage. Although Cologne pulled one back through Linton Maina in the 78th minute, it was too little too late for the home side.
The former German youth international was substituted in the 90th minute, with Davie Selke taking his place. Königsdörffer’s exceptional performance earned him a well-deserved 8.5 rating, the highest of any player on the pitch.
Last season, Ransford Yeboah Königsdörffer contributed to Hamburger SV’s campaign with two goals and four assists in 30 league appearances. His impressive start to the new season suggests that he could be even more influential this time around.
Hamburger SV will look to build on this positive start when they face Hertha BSC on August 10 in their next league fixture.
