Asante Kotoko in-form goalkeeper, Kwame Baah has told the Asante Kotoko board and management not to shy away from an opportunity to play in Africa if eventually the league is cancelled due the outbreak of covid-19 and they are being given the nod to represent Ghana in Africa.
Even though part of the supporters are asking the board and management to turn down such an opportunity if it’s presented to them but the shot stoppers doesn’t agree with them as he said during an interview with Kotoko Express app.
He said: “I disagree with those who say that, we do not have what it takes to compete in Africa,” says the Kotoko and the national U23 current first-choice goalkeeper. “In this job of ours, you can not gain experience from sitting idle and dodging key competition but from trying and trying again even when you do not reach your target.”
“We, for the first time in about ten years, reached the group stage of the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup, and although the 2019 campaign did not go as well, we still have to keep pushing. That is how you gain the experience needed to win a cup.”
“The players are very ready to play. What we need is mental toughness. We may lack a bit in strength because we, by then, might have stayed at home for a long time. But we have a very good and experienced coach and he will know exactly what to bring us up to speed.”
“The current generation also wants to win an African cup for the club,” continues Kwame Baah. “We also want our names to be written in gold in the history of the club. We are encouraged every time we hear of the exploits of the 1970 and the 1983 Champions League winning squad.”
