Stade Reims have confirmed Newcastle and West Ham transfer target Hugo Ekitike will not leave this transfer window and will remain at the club until the end of the season at least.
90min have long reported on interest in Ekitike from the Premier League, with Newcastle particularly keen to wrap up a deal.
Talks between Reims and Newcastle continued on deadline day before finally breaking down, and club president Jean-Pierre Caillot confirmed in a statement that Ekitike will be staying in France for the time being.
“It is true that we received very good offers for Hugo during this transfer window. Our desire has always been to keep him at least one full season,” he said.
“He too was keen not to skip the stages, wanting to be a little more lasting in the club project, that of his training club which he joined at the age of 11. We share the feeling that there is still a piece of history to write together. We are happy to be able to count on him from Sunday against Bordeaux.”
Newcastle’s search for another striker goes on with hours of the window remaining. 90min understands they retain late interests in Atalanta’s Duvan Zapata and Dominic Solanke.
