Kumasi Asante Kotoko has settled Tunisian side Esperance after unlawfully signing Emmanuel Clottey which resulted in the Ghana Premier League giants being subjected to a FIFA fine.
The Porcupine Warriors broke a FIFA rule when they signed Emmanuel Clottey in 2015 while the striker was still on the books of the Tunisian outfit.
This offense resulted in the club being slapped with a $250,000 fine by the world football governing body (FIFA) consisting of a $180,000 for Clottey’s transfer, $45,000 of interest accumulated, and an additional $15,000 for breaking a FIFA rule.
The Kumasi based club submitted an amount of $30,000 to the Tunisians following their agreement to cancel the $45,000 accrued interest.
Kotoko was given a deadline of May 17, to pay the debt or risk further sanctions by FIFA.
Kennedy Boakye revealed that the two clubs have submitted a letter to FIFA to inform it of the settlement.
Speaking to Kotoko Express App, “Dr. Kwame Kyei has paid the amounts due Esperance and FIFA in the Emmanuel Clottey issue,” he revealed
“Thirty thousand ($30,000) US Dollars go to Esperance an addition to the $150,000 owed to Kotoko for the transfer of Kwame Bonsu.
“The Executive Chairman also paid $150,000 owed to FIFA. We are grateful to Dr. Kyei and also to Ashford Tetteh Oku of Close Marking Consult for the smooth closure of this case.” He concluded
