Samson Baidoo, a young Ghanaian player of Austrian descent, scored for Red Bull Salzburg on Wednesday night against Inter Milan in a preseason friendly.
Salzburg faced off against the Italian heavyweights at the Red Bull Arena on Sunday before their third Austrian Bundesliga encounter, losing 4-3 in a fiercely contested battle.
In the opening six minutes of the game, Karim Konate scored for the home team. However, Inter Milan got back into the game three minutes later when Pavlovic scored an own goal. Stefan de Vrij then added another goal for the Italian powerhouses in the 25th minute.
Konate once more equalised the score, but Inter Milan regained the lead through Joaquin Correa moments before the first half ended.
Right after the half, Baidoo scored his team’s third goal and another equaliser with a well-placed shot.
The Austrian team would eventually lose 4-3 after falling again in the final seconds.
The team anticipates giving the Austrian defender, whose parents are from Ghana, more playing time this season.
