Southampton and Sevilla are reportedly pushing hard’ for Strasbourg defender Alexander Djiku, as they look to replace outgoings at the back.
The 28-year-old Ghanaian has just one year left on his current contract at the French Ligue 1 outfit, and is also attracting interest from an unnamed Premier League club and Sevilla.
That is according to French publication RMC Sport, who say Djiku could leave Strasbourg today ahead of the 11PM transfer deadline.
Saints and Sevilla are likely to be looking for further centre-back reinforcements, with Jan Bednarek, Jack Stephens and Dynel Simeu all expected to complete loan transfers out.
France-born Djiku is a Ghana international with 17 caps and 194 matches of experience in his birthplace’s top-flight.
Six-foot Djiku has played 100 times for Strasbourg since arriving in 2019, and has experience playing in Europa League qualifying for the club. He also had top-flight spells at SM Caen and Bastia.
Djiku could be Mohammed Salisu’s international teammate at this year’s World Cup in Qatar, if the Saints man follows through with making his first steps for the Black Stars.
