Some players don’t deserve to wear Black Stars jersey – Badu

Former Ghana international Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has expressed his displeasure at Ghana’s AFCON 2021 campaign and questioned the character of some of the players.

Ghana recorded its worst ever record at the history of the Africa Cup of Nations following a group stage exit with no win.

Talking about the team’s performance in Cameroon on Takoradi-based Connect FM‘s Sports Flash, Agyemang Badu said the national team is played with a certain character that some of the current squad members don’t have.

“The national team is for every Ghanaian. But it is not every Ghanaian who can play for the Black Stars. The badge represents the spirit of the nation. So we need players with character to represent us. I think some of the players now don’t know the value of the jersey,” he said on Connect FM in an interview.

He continued that Ghana football hasn’t been on the right path, making the results in Cameroon not a suprising one though it is disappointing.

“If you look at how our football has been for the past two years when we started with the qualifiers to the tournament, I don’t think you will be too much surprised with the performance of the Black Stars though I knew we were going to qualify from the group stages.

“The things that happened two years back is what has manifested now. I’m not surprised because a lot is going on. We can’t say everything publicly. Trust me, what went on is the reason for this result. Preparations wasn’t the best and a whole lot,” he added.

Ghana finished at the bottom of their group after picking just a point in three games.
