Nana Sarfo Oduro, a member of the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Executive Council, has revealed that Chinese-owned pay-TV operator StarTimes is on the verge of finalizing a deal to resume its role as the official broadcaster of the Ghana Premier League.
StarTimes, which previously held the broadcasting rights, halted coverage due to an unresolved debt of nearly $1 million.
However, Sarfo Oduro, speaking on Asempa FM, announced that negotiations with the pay-TV giant are close to conclusion.
“We are almost closing up with StarTimes, and it is likely they will return in the second round to broadcast our games,” he confirmed.
The anticipated return of StarTimes is expected to significantly boost the league’s visibility and offer improved access for fans globally.
In addition to broadcasting Ghana Premier League games, the deal is likely to include coverage of FA Cup matches, further elevating the profile of domestic football.
The league’s earlier transition to free-to-air broadcasters faced criticism for poor production quality, prompting calls for a more professional broadcasting partner.
StarTimes’ return is widely regarded as a positive development, with fans hopeful for a superior viewing experience that will spotlight the talents and excitement of Ghanaian football.
