Former Ghana Black player Kelvin Prince Boateng has described Stephen Appiah as a selfless leader.
Stephen Appiah accepted the substitute role to help Ghana in the 2010 World Cup. The skipper sacrificed his playing time for the team’s progress.
According to him, Appiah’s selflessness was one of the things that helped unified the Black Stars to excel in only their second appearance in the tournament, as he analysed Ghana’s shock exit from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
People accepted to be on the bench and big players like Stephen Appiah who knew that it was time for the younger players to play accepted the decision and supported them. Boateng
In 2014, our squad was must stronger but in 2010, we were a team and we played as a team.
They were there supporting us even though they were not playing regularly and that’s what the current Black Stars needed but they don’t have the spirit and togetherness.
The Hertha Berlin player said the senior players sacrificed their gains so that the team could achieve the collective goal of excelling in the tournament and making Ghanaians proud.
