Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Samuel Aboabire has urged the Black Stars to step up their performance in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
His remarks come following the senior national team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament having finished at the bottom of Group F with three points.
Despite sitting in the 2nd spot in Group I with nine points after four games, Mr Aboabire, who also serves as the Greater Accra Football Association chairman charged the senior national team to improve their performance in the qualifiers.
“I will urge the Black Stars players to step up their performance,” he told Accra-based Onua TV.
The Ghana Football Association [GFA] is under pressure following the Black Stars performance but the president, Kurt Okraku has high expectations for the players.” he added.
Reflecting on the challenging year, Mr Aboabire expressed hope for a turnaround in 2025.
“Ghana has been unlucky in 2024 when it comes to the national team performances but we hope for the best in 2025,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars will hope to improve their performance when they take on Chad and Madagascar in the Matchday five and six games in the World Cup qualifiers in March later this year.
