With a record total of 44 (out of 54) Confederation of African Football (CAF) members, national teams entered into the qualifying rounds, the 12 teams that will participate in the 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations have been confirmed after two rounds of qualifiers.
This will be the first time 12 teams will be participating in the tournament after it was increased from an 8 teams tournament to 12 teams tournament which will also serve as 2023 World Cup qualifications.
The semifinalist of the 2022 edition will qualify for the 2023 Women World Cup.
Below are the 12 teams qualified for the 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations slated in Morocco.
Botswana
Botswana will be making their debut in the 2022 Africa Women Football Cup after a hard-fought victory against Zimbabwe.
The Tswana ladies eliminated Angola in the first round before qualifying on away goals rules against Zimbabwe to seal the ticket to their first-ever AWCON tournament.
Burkina Faso
Burkina Faso is another team that will be making its debut in the 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations after beating Guinea Bissau 7-0 on aggregate.
The Burkinabes begin their journey to Morocco with a 5-2 aggregate victory over the Benin Republic.
Burundi
Burundi will also be making their debut appearance in the 2022 edition of the Women Africa Cup of Nations after eliminating Djibouti.
Cameroon
The Indomitable Lioness of Cameroon is one of two teams that have qualified for every edition of the Women Africa Cup of Nations.
The Four times finalist eliminate the Central African Republic and the Gambia took their place in Morocco in 2022 and was one of the favourites to win the 2022 edition.
Nigeria
The Super Falcons of Nigeria will be seeking to defend the title they have won 10 times after eliminating Ghana and Ivory Coast to qualify.
The Nigerian side has qualified for every edition of the tournament and is one the favourite to win the 2022 edition.
Morocco
Morocco is the host of the 2022 edition and will be making its third appearance after participating in the 1998 and 2000 editions.
The Morocco team have been engaging in different friendlies to win the tournament for the first time.
Senegal
Senegal will be making a return to the Women Africa Cup of Nations after 10 years.
The Teranga Lioness’s first and last appearance was in 2012 when they crashed out in the group stage without winning a game.
Senegal eliminated Liberia and tournament favourite Mali to qualify for the tournament.
South Africa
After missing out on only one Edition, Banyana Banyana of South Africa qualified for the 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations after a 1-1 draw with Algeria.
The 2018 finalist earlier eliminate Mozambique before picking up a 3-1 aggregate scoreline against Algeria
South Africa have reached finals five times, 1995, 2000, 2008, 2012 and 2018.
Togo
Togo is one of the four debutants in the 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations slated in Morocco.
Togo eliminates Sao Tome and Principe before picking a hard-fought victory against the Gabonese.
Tunisia
Tunisia will also be making a return to the Women Africa Cup of Nations after 14 years.
Tunisia made their debut in 2008 when it finished bottom of group B with just a point.
Uganda
Uganda will be making a return to the Women Africa Cup of Nations after 20 years of being away.
Uganda’s first appearance was in 2000 in South Africa where the team finished third in group A with just a point.
Zambia
The Copper Queens of Zambia will be making their fourth appearance after beating Namibia on away goals rules to book their place in Morocco 2022.
Zambia qualified for the 1995, 2014 and 2018 edition without making it past the group stage.
