Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) vice president George Afriyie has made bold claims that the Ghana Premier League (GPL) is being “manipulated” under the leadership of current GFA President Kurt Okraku.
George Afriyie who served as the GFA’s vice president under Kwesi Nyantakyi’s reign made the allegations during an interview where he outlined his concerns about the state of the league and the overall governance of Ghanaian football.
George Afriyie Speaking on Kessben FM accused the GFA under Okraku’s leadership of creating an environment where match results, officiating decisions, and the flow of resources are influenced by certain interests.
“The League is manipulated, But if say it you are being tagged as opposition. When he proposed an autonomous league. We said it should be Semi. 5 years on in his reign where is the autonomous now? league
The league is a manipulated league. It is a completely tainted league” He said.
His accusations revolve around what he perceives as an increasing lack of transparency and accountability within the GFA’s administration of the GPL.
He alleges that certain clubs and individuals have undue influence over how the league is run, which has led to unfair advantages and questionable decisions regarding fixtures, officiating, and even financial distribution.
