Thomas Partey Praises Arsenal Squad Depth as Gunners Aim High in Premier League

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is confident that the intense competition for places in the team’s engine room will be pivotal in their pursuit of the 2024/2025 Premier League title.

The Gunners narrowly missed out on the championship last season, finishing second with 89 points, just three points behind eventual winners Manchester City.

After overcoming a frustrating injury-ridden campaign, the former Atletico Madrid midfielder is fully fit and ready to battle for a starting spot alongside Declan Rice, Jorginho, and Martin Odegaard.

Partey made 16 appearances across all competitions for the Gunners last season but is eager to contribute more consistently. The 30-year-old highlighted the strength in depth within the Arsenal squad and stressed the importance of healthy competition for driving standards.

“We have a lot of players in that position,” Thomas Partey said. “Jorgi is playing good, I am playing good. Dec is there, Martin (Odegaard) too. We also have other players who can come in and make a difference. We have to compete against each other and at the end of the day, it is the manager (Arteta) who decides.”

The Ghanaian international concluded by emphasizing the positive impact of such competition on the team’s overall ambitions. “With this kind of competition, we can get to the level that we want to be at,” he added.

Thomas Partey is currently in the United States with Arsenal for their pre-season tour. The Gunners will face Manchester United on July 28 in their second friendly match after drawing with Bournemouth on July 25. He featured in the opening game.

As Arsenal look to build on their successful 2023/24 campaign, the return to full fitness of midfielder Thomas Partey is a significant boost. The Ghanaian’s presence, combined with the intense competition for places in the midfield, promises to be a key factor in the Gunners’ title aspirations.

With a strong pre-season under their belt, Arsenal will be eager to start the new Premier League season with a victory when they host Wolves at the Emirates Stadium on August 12.
