🔹Thomas Tuchel: “Yes for sure, there’s no doubt I stay until the end of the season. You have to go day-by-day because the situation can change.”
🔹Thomas Tuchel: “The club is for sale but hopefully it goes through. So day-by-day, which is a good way to live your life. There are circumstances we can’t influence but that gives us the freedom to focus on the things we can influence. The focus is on the first team, our players and me. But Chelsea is much more than just the first team.It is a massive club with huge tradition and there are hundreds of staff, it’s not just the players, and it’s important we show the spirit and give them the distraction.”
🔹Thomas Tuchel on what’s changed at Chelsea this week: “It changed for the guys who plan the journey to Lille and then I get the information. For me, when I come into the building, nothing has changed so far.”
🔹Thomas Tuchel on Lille trip: “If we don’t have a plane I’ll drive a seven-seater!”
🔹Thomas Tuchel on Lille trip: “My last information is we have a plane and we can go by plane and come back by plane. If not we go by train, if not by bus, if not I will drive a seven-seater. If you asked me 30 years ago if I could join a UCL match at the sideline, I’d say when do I need to be there and how do I need to be there.”
🔹Thomas Tuchel on Chelsea being in one situation, Newcastle another: “Unfortunately, the situation’s like this for [their] owners. What can I say? I don’t want to point the finger because comparing yourself & blaming others doesn’t change our situation. Our statement that we condemn war and what happens in Ukraine doesn’t change. There is no doubt.”
🔹Thomas Tuchel: “At some point we need to trust the process of the league of who owns a club. We are famous employees because we speak into a camera but we are only employees, so we need to trust the process. The same way you guys hope to work for a company that are not doing moral things. “
🔹Thomas Tuchel on atmosphere around the Club impacting him: “Not more than in the last game. We are not responsible for the situation so it’s our responsibility to focus on what we do good. There are a lot of people I see on a daily basis who are worried. They’ve worked here for decades but are not famous and they are worried about the future. So we see what it means to these people, even if it is for 90 minutes. Like during Covid, we play to give people joy, anger, entertainment.”
🔹Thomas Tuchel: “The Kai Havertz goal was exceptional and we had a hard time on the pitch. They were very physical and it was difficult to accelerate the game in the last 30 metres. It was important not to concede so that with one quality chance we could win it and we did it.”
🔹Thomas Tuchel on showing boldness to play Hakim Ziyech/Christian Pulisic at wing-back: “The manager showed some balls with these decisions. Hakim did it against Tottenham when we saw they played a back five, it was a similar situation we played recently. It’s not their best positions. It’s a bit easier for someone like Christian to come on into the match because you’re in the heat of the match. But we took the risk to increase offensive threat and I think in the end, we had a double run with Kai and Pulisic. It was a bit of a risk because Malang was important in defending set-pieces, but the game was a draw so we were taking the risk of a point. We took the risk for three and I am happy we took it.””
