Renowned football administrator, Wilfred Osei Kwaku Palmer revealed why former Black Stars coach, James Akwesi Appiah was sacked from his post early this year.
According to the former Black Stars management member, Kwesi Appiah’s failure the call certain players which are branded as players who belong to the current Ghana Football Association capo into the Black Stars led to his dismissal.
Palmer stated that although Ghana was unable to win the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations staged in Egypt, the decision to drop some players especially John Antwi, who was then backed by people currently in power, was one of the major reasons he was shown the exit door.
In an interview with Fox FM, Palmer said:
“Is it not an open secret that because Kwesi Appiah did not call certain kinds of players [when he was in charge of Ghana], somebody got agitated and at the end of it all we know the outcome of that decision today.”
Akwesi Appiah was replaced by former Asante Kotoko coach CK Akonnor after the various technical departments of the national teams were dissolved in November.
