The facility, which hosted the 66th Independence Day anniversary parade last year on the theme: “Our Unity, Our Strength, Our Purpose”, has decayed rapidly barely one-and-a-half years after the celebration, with the structures falling apart and thriving weeds turning the place into a game reserve.
In its present state, the abandoned site cannot serve the purpose for which it was put up.
The only ‘sporting activities’ at the venue currently are the frequent fights between the visiting wild rabbits and dogs belonging to the security men.
Angered by this state of affairs, members of a group calling itself the Volta Sports Crusaders, last Friday, took part in a demonstration on the streets of the regional capital, Ho, to call on the government to fix the centre and put it to good use, without delay.
They ended the demonstration on the premises of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC), where they presented a petition to the Chief Director, Augustus Awity.
A spokesman for the group, Forster Korsi Osei, said the Youth Resource Centre project which took off on March 22, 2018, was scheduled to be completed in nine months.
Although it was not completed, he said, the project was carried out to a stage to host the national Independence Day celebration. Mr Osei said the ceilings at the VIP stands had been ripped off while the air-conditioners in the offices had been stolen.
Meanwhile, he said, the football field was breeding serpents from the overgrown weeds.
“Already, the deteriorated Ho Sports Stadium, which is being used by Division One clubs, Home Stars FC and Inter Allies as their home ground, has become a rice field and does not befit the status of the regional capital,” he stated.
“We are, therefore, calling on the government to complete work on the Youth Resource Centre and put it to use as soon as possible,” Mr Osei maintained.

The ceiling is already deteriorating
The Volta Regional Director of the National Youth Authority, Yao Semode, when contacted, said officials of the national secretariat of the authority had already met with contractors of the resource centres in the country on the plans to complete the facilities.
Subsequent to that, he said, a team from the secretariat, including the director of finance and projects, had visited the centre at Adaklu-Tsrefe.“The project will be revived very soon,” he assured this reporter.
