Virgil Van Dijk is reportedly sidelined for Liverpool due to a hamstring injury after Liverpool’s loss to Brentford in the Premier League last Monday.
After the first 45 minutes, Joel Matip came on to partner Konate with Van Dijk subbed off for the away side on the night.
Liverpool went on to lose the tie 3-1 and went further below the top four spot on the Premier League table
However, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes Virgil’s injury does not look serious as it seems.
He further went on to say, “Virgil felt a little bit the muscle but said he is fine, and he’s a very good judge of these kind of things. But I didn’t want to take any risk – the physios looked quite happy when I said we don’t take risks. But I think it is not an injury, he just felt the intensity”.
The Liverpool Echo however have indicated that Van Dijk’s injury could be more severe than feared with the Dutch skipper likely to miss up to a month of action.
The deputy Liverpool skipper played the full 90 in every game prior to the loss to Brentford and has started all 23 Premier League and Champions League matches for Liverpool this season, scoring two goals in the English Premier League.
