The match between Sea Lions FC and Soccer Intellectuals on Matchday 11 of the Ghana Women’s Premier League was an interesting encounter to look out for.
Both teams aimed to use the game to shake themselves from the shackles of relegation with Sea Lions already in the relegation zone and Soccer Intellectuals just a step away from the relegation zone.
The game began at exactly 3pm on the cloudy Saturday of March 12, 2022. The first ten minutes of the game already saw a keenly contested encounter from both sides.
Twenty minutes into the game, Sea Lions forward, Alice Sarpong, denied her side and opener as she missed a glaring opportunity at goal.
The game got halted for 10 minutes after Red Cross Personnel had to attend to the Second Assistant Referee, Margaret Sowah, who collapsed in the course of the game and resumed with Fourth Referee, Angela Basoti replacing her. Despite daring efforts from both sides, the first half ended on a barren note.
The second half saw the fight for an opener continue for both sides.
The insistent efforts from Soccer Intellectuals finally yielded some result as Efiaa Boakye Yiadom capitalized on a defending error on the part of Sea Lions defender, Rita Musah, to score a goal in the 58th minute.
Sea Lions was seen panting for an equaliser while Soccer Intellectuals displayed their hunger for more goals as the game progressed until referee Yanosah Mariama, whistled for the end of the game.
The scoreline remained 1-0 in favour of Soccer Intellectuals.
This result keeps Sea Lions FC on the 9th position on the League Log.
They face bottom-placed Immigration Ladies FC on Matchday 12 of the Women’s Premier League while Soccer Intellectuals moves a place up from 8th to 7th position on the table. They play next against second-placed Ladystrikers FC.
