A delegation led by the Youth and Sports Minister, Hon. Isaac Asiamah has today cut sword to begin the renovation works at the Sekondi Sports Stadium in the Western Region.
The Sekondi Sports Stadium which was part of the stadia used for the 2008 Africa Cup Of Nations tournament in Ghana has been abandoned in terms of renovations, leaving its roof and other important facilities to deteriorate.
The Honorable Minister mentioned that the project will be in two phases with the first phase to cost 17.8 million cedis.
In an interview with the Takoradi media at the Sekondi Sports Stadium, Hon. Isaac Asiamah said:
“The work is scheduled in two faces, with the scoop of work in the first face to include the removal of deteriorated roofing sheets and be replaced.”
“Corrosion protection works will involved sun blasting to remove rust. There will be replacement of damaged roof structural steel frame member and bolts, waterproof treatment will be applied to the leaking areas.”
“There will be a general renovation of offices. Plumbing and air conditioning works will include the replacement of existing defective sanitary appliances. Repair of lifts, fire fighting systems, and air conditioning units.”
The second phase of the project will see the spectator’s seats repaired to full shape. Electrical installation, external works plus the uncompleted works at hotel facilities will all be done in the second phase.
Already, renovation works at the Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium is underway while the Accra Sports Stadium has been completed.
