Zamalek SC coach, Jose Gomes, believes his team can overturn a goalless first leg deficit against Dreams FC in the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals. The Egyptian side were held at home in Cairo on Sunday, April 21, despite dominating the match.
Gomes acknowledged shortcomings in his side’s finishing, stating, and “We expected more from the players… We had many chances and did not score.” However, he remains confident ahead of the return leg scheduled for April 28 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, Ghana.
The Portuguese manager expects the Ghanaian climate to play a role, saying, “Things will be very different in the return match, especially with the grass, humidity and temperature.”
He believes these factors will better suit his team’s style, but stressed the importance of improvement: “Even if things are like that, I trust the players.”
Zamalek will need to find their scoring touch in Kumasi. An away goal for Zamalek would make the tie extremely difficult for the Ghanaians to overcome. The second leg promises to be a tense affair, with both sides vying for a place in the CAF Confederation Cup final.
